Funding and Grants
The grant scheme for The Sphinx Foundation for Archaeological Research awards funding for (1) archaeological fieldwork (surveying and excavating) and advanced professional studies related to material culture; (2) conservation, preservation, and documentation; (3) and emergency conservation and intervention to preserve sites currently under threat of encroachment and destruction from environmental factors. The grant application process will be announced annually and the awards will reflect the available funding. SFAR's Limited and Special Named Grant(s)
Emergency Fieldwork, Intervention, and Conservation Grant

​The Emergency Fieldwork, Intervention, and Conservation Grant (EFIC) is intended to assist ongoing fieldwork and research projects with emergency funding to cover expenses associated with unforeseen circumstances or costs that exceed the planned project or seasonal budget. The EFIC Grant will assist with such limited expenses as:

Specialized Equipment and Supplies,

Sampling and Analysis,

Material Specialists and Conservators

Security, Fencing, Signage, and Other Protective Measures
This is a limited one-time grant intended to assist in resolving unanticipated expenses associated with conservation to preserve artifacts, features, collections, conduct diagnostic sampling and analysis, costs for specialists and conservators, interventionary measures related to encroachment and destruction from environmental factors, and further issues that exceed existing funding sources for ongoing research and fieldwork projects. The grant is not renewable; however, projects may apply for additional emergency funding for different unforeseen circumstances in later seasons or phases of the project. The EFIC Grant will remain open for submissions throughout the year. Applicants are encouraged to review existing grant funding agreements and contact the associated agencies prior to applying for SFAR's EFIC Grant to ensure there is no conflict. The final amount awarded is dependent on the available funds and the discretion of the grant committee. The application letter should outline the need for this work (related to the guidelines of the EFIC Grant), timeframe for completion, and the exact costs, and any preliminary documentation (estimates and receipts), which will be further outlined in the report to be submitted no later than the nearest May 1st. Further, the application for emergency funding related to ongoing fieldwork projects are required to submit copies of paperwork detailing approvals to conduct research from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and other relevant Egyptian or foreign regulatory agencies and institutions.
