Emergency Fieldwork, Intervention, and Conservation Grant

Award Amount: $1,000-5,000

The Emergency Fieldwork, Intervention, and Conservation Grant (EFIC) is intended to assist ongoing projects that require immediate funding related to emergency intervention to preserve recently uncovered features, artifacts, and other material remains, and issues associated with encroachment and destruction from environmental factors while conducting fieldwork or other research that is not covered by current funding sources.   SFAR anticipates that awarded funds will assist with expenses related to specialized equipment and costs of analysis, conservation supplies, transportation and compensation associated with material specialists, conservators, and other necessary materials and activities.  The applicants for emergency funding related to ongoing fieldwork projects are required to submit copies of paperwork detailing approvals to conduct research from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and other relevant Egyptian or foreign regulatory agencies and institutions.  Please download and review the application below for full details regarding requirements and restrictions.

This is a limited one-time grant intended to assist in resolving unforeseen expenses associated with existing fieldwork or research that exceeds the planned budget and funding resources for a season and/or project.  The grant is not renewable; however, projects may apply for additional emergency funding for different unforeseen circumstances in later seasons or phases in the project.  The EFIC Grant will remain open for submissions throughout the year.  Applicants are encouraged to review existing grant funding agreements and contact the associated agencies prior to applying for SFAR's EFIC Grant to ensure there is no conflict.  The final amount awarded is dependent on the available funds and the discretion of the grant committee.  Please contact danielmwarne@sphinxarchaeology.org for questions regarding the application and issues submitting.
