Your Support

The Sphinx Foundation for Archaeological Research (SFAR) relies on your generous support to assist in funding archaeological missions and research projects in Egypt, the United States, and around the world.  The Sphinx Foundation will provide funding for research in three categories: (1) archaeological fieldwork and advanced professional studies related to material culture; (2) conservation, preservation, and documentation; (3) and for emergency intervention and conservation to preserve objects, monuments, and sites currently under threat of encroachment and destruction from environmental factors.

The current funds raised through donations will support conservation in Theban Tomb 16, and excavations at Kom el-Fakhry, part of the ancient capital city of Memphis (read more about our projects under the Fieldwork / Research tab and in our Sphinx and Trowel Newsletter).  Join us in our mission to further our understanding of the Egyptian past by supporting projects in need of continued funding.

Photograph of the fields, houses, and line of palm trees before the Theban montain, Luxor, Egypt.
Scene from the walls of a tomb depicting priests, an urn with the ram-head of the god Amun, a large bouquet, and hieroglyphic text.

The images above are from Theban Tomb 16 and the agricultural fields looking towards the western mountains in Luxor.  The wall scene depicts a vessel with the head of the god Amun being carried in procession out of the great temple of Karnak, from the tomb of Panehsy and Tarenu at Dra abu el-Naga.

Photograph of a wall fragment depicting the goddess Hathor (a cow with a sun disk between its horns) before an offering stand piled with lotus. The fragment is to be restored as part of the conservation efforts in Theban Tomb 16, on of the projects supported by SFAR.

This elegant wall fragment depicting the goddess Hathor before an offering stand will be restored to its original location during conservation efforts underway in the tomb of Panehsy and Tarenu, directed by Dr. Suzanne Onstine, University of Memphis Mission to Theban Tomb 16.
